More about Print on Demand: I have used high-resolution images of my paintings to create new patterns and designs, and chosen products to print them on. When you order an item, you are ordering from the company that makes these products. They print the leather or fabric and actually make your item to order. It’s efficient and amazingly fast. Although this company is in the UK, their flat-rate shipping is fast and affordable to the US. Of course if you are in the UK or EU it’s even faster! I chose this company to partner with because of the quality of their products. The leather is buttery, the fabrics available include a variety of heavenly silks. As I learn more about the process, I will be introducing more products to the line. Do visit and see the amazing ways these paintings can be rewired!
What about the jewelry?
There is still some inventory, and I shall be putting together a sale event for the fall. Big discounts and the same lovely materials. But new items and custom work are discontinued indefinitely. Beadweaving patterns and supplies continue to be available in my etsy store, ArtStudioSale.
Thank you to all who supported my jewelry work. This was not an easy decision. It’s definitely the right thing for me. I hope you will enjoy following this new endeavor.
Some artists are motivated by an overriding philosophy that leads them toward a particular material or motif. I find myself inspired by materials themselves. Color, texture or history bring to mind memories, real or imagined, and it is my task to bring them out.
I try to work with the particular qualities and strengths of any given material, focused on bringing an element of the unexpected to familiar forms.
The viewer is invited to move between the known and unknown as they experience the piece, when they recognize a familiar material, object or texture but see it next to something they can't quite place--or used in a way that defies instant recognition.
It is this manipulation of the expected that informs my work and gives it an energy, the fascination of a conversation between odd and familiar.
Using vintage and antique materials adds the element of time to a piece; the viewer is enabled to notice she stands in multiple dimensions at once: the known, the unknown, and the past. ‘Rescuing’ a fragment of textile or small object from obscurity to return it to life via the daily contact of wear or viewing gives me the deepest pleasure.
We are always experiencing these things but sometimes need a nudge to help us notice. It is my intention that my work serves as a reminder to open our minds to all that is around us.
